Burning Passions Theatre, in conjunction with the Ottawa Muslim Women’s Organization, is planning a new play about the lives of six Muslim women as they navigate interpersonal conflict as well as negative societal influences (ie, racism, gendered Islamophobia). It will be staged in Ottawa in late November 2026.
This is a theatre-in-the-community training program, so you do not need to have any prior acting experience (although if you do have experience you are welcome too!) We would meet twice a week through September, October and November to rehearse (one weekday evening, a weekend afternoon, depending on everyone’s schedule, with additional rehearsal dates possible if needed).
We are specifically looking to cast six women: 3 who can play characters in their 50s/60s and 3 who could play women in their 20s/30s. Although this is a volunteer training opportunity, a modest honorarium will be provided at the conclusion of the project.
To apply to be part of this project please send us an email by July 24 to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. explaining why you're interested in the project, any experience you have had with performance (and again, if you have none, that is not a problem!), and a selfie.
We’ll be doing online interviews the last week of July.
In addition, if you are not interested in performing but would like to play a role backstage (eg, sourcing props and furniture, assistant stage managing, etc), please let us know as well.
