A retired physician and recipient of the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian distinction, Dr. Gabor Maté is renowned for his knowledge and expertise on addiction, trauma, childhood development, and the relationship of stress and illness.
Maté is a well revered speaker on the above subjects and issues while also being honoured as a child of Holocaust survivors. He expresses compassion and empathy for those suffering under occupation in the Middle East conflict.
In his earlier years, Maté questioned the occupation imposed by Israel. This ruffled many feathers in his family. “I basically dared say that Israel had launched this war to occupy territory and they’ll never give it back", to later ask his father "Now, I’m going to ask you: how wrong was it?”
The doctor understands that his parents and grandparents suffered immensely for being Jewish and that it was beyond fathomable for their young offspring to criticise Israel, to call its policies into question, but he called it as he saw it anyway.
Maté questions the basis of the occupant's justification; “the actual history” punctured it: “The slogan about a land without a people for a people without a land. There was never a land without a people; there was a people there.”
Dr. Gabor will share his thoughts further on the state of the Palestinians; the repercussions for those who have already suffered and the foreseeable risks for coming generations.
To further our purpose; A live fundraiser will be held to raise money for critical humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza.
Come share the evening listening to Gabor's message with the opportunity to ask the expert a question. Like yourself, network with others who are compassionate about the perils of the conflict.
