Photo Credit: Mohammad AlsunidarDec. 23rd 2011 marked the tenth year anniversary of the "Reviving the Islamic Spirit Conference" -- an event which draws thousands of Muslims each year from all over North America and the world to Canada, precisely at the foot of the iconic CN Tower.

Once a small youth initiative, the RIS Conference has now reached massive popularity among North American Muslims and attracted an attendance of approximately 20,000 people making it a sold out event for the first time since its inception in 2001.

Droves of Muslims descended upon the Metro Toronto Convention Center to shop in the Great Bazaar, to reconnect with old friends but most of all, to listen to inspiring lectures given by a panel of internationally recognized Muslim scholars.

Sentence delivered in niqab assault case PDF Print

A woman who pleaded guilty to assault after pulling off a Muslim woman’s face veil at a Mississauga, Ont., shopping mall has been given a suspended sentence.

Rosemarie Creswell had been charged with pulling the niqab off Inas Kadri as her three-year-old son and two-year-old daughter children watched at the Sheridan Centre mall in August 2010.

The congested streets have become unbearable since the September monsoon rains, which have neither drained nor evaporated due to blocked sewage lines and dropping temperatures. Mosquitoes and other insects are spreading malaria, diarrhea and skin infections.

This is the second year in a row that the people of Jhatpat have faced this situation, and the strain is beginning to show.

Israel benefits from its repressive occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, but this policy stains Jewish values and image and will ultimately prove disastrous for Israel itself, says Amira Hass.

The award-winning Israeli journalist was on a ten-city Canadian tour from Sept 27 to Oct. 8.

Her talk in Ottawa on Oct. 7 presented a very different picture of the Middle East than the one most Canadian media and Canadian government officials convey to us. It could explain why Canadian media and political leaders ignored her visit and the visits of other prominent Israelis who have spoken against Israel’s violation of basic human rights and international law.
