Ottawa residents were recently afforded a unique opportunity to enrich their understanding of an era whose common knowledge is decidedly imbalanced: the Crusades.
While in the Western world, the Crusades evokes mental pictures of gallant Christian knights on horses led by King Richard the Lionheart, fighting for their religion, the recent Cordova Academy workshop on July 10 demonstrated that the Crusades were in fact quite different than we have been made to believe. The 'lion' in King Richard's epithet, for example, had nothing to do with any bravery he may have possessed.

The doors are open to an excellent opportunity for Ottawa's Muslims to give dawah (call to Islam), learn new skills and receive reward from Allah. Unfortunately, no one's entering these doors.
Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit Christian housing organisation, recently welcomed members of other faiths to join together in the construction of a home for a low income family.

Allah, glory be to Him in the Highest, created man and jinn to worship Him. With the right intention, every action or transaction we carry out in our day to day lives can be considered ibadah (worship); including our daily monetary transactions with other people and groups or organizations.
As human beings, our basic necessities are shelter, food, medical treatment, education, and fulfillment of spiritual and recreational needs.

It’s a reality not many people know about, or would like to talk about. It is the steady number of Muslims who are getting caught up in crime and finding themselves behind bars.
People who work with inmates in federal and provincial jails say there is far too little support from the wider Muslim community for those who are convicted.
Yasin Dwyer is a one-time Ottawa resident who now resides in Hamilton. For the past six years, he has had a front-row seat to the changing demographics in the province’s federal prison population.

The Ottawa Palestine Solidarity Network is calling on Canadians of conscience to protest against the upcoming visit by Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu.
Mr. Netanyahu is scheduled to visit the capital on May 31. He is the first sitting Israeli prime minister to visit the country since Yitzhak Rabin in 1994.
