Sponsored by the Canadian Film Institute, Ariel Nasr’s  The Boxing Girls of Kabul played before a disparate audience united by a common interest in the plight of Afghanistan. The theme was also embodied by the commitment of the event organizers, a group of women who have volunteered to make EMW an artistic celebration for women to look forward to each year.

The panel was part of the 2012 Ottawa Peace Festival and also raised awareness about the United Nations International Day of the Girl Child (October 11). As panelists we discussed many controversial and sensitive topics related to the abuse of women and girls both in Canada and abroad.

It was noon on a hot September day in Tel Aviv and I was on my way to the Tel Aviv Cinematheque for the world premiere of my film Within the Eye of the Storm, which tells the amazing story of Bassam Aramin and Rami Elhanan – a Palestinian and an Israeli who, against all odds, go from being enemies to brothers.
