Newspaper's mission:
The Muslim Link Newspaper aims to provide Ottawa's Muslim community with original news and information monthly in print and 24/7 on line. The paper will remain non-partisan, dedicated to providing balanced information and opinions on issues affecting the Muslim community with the intent of informing and empowering Muslims of all ages and backgrounds.
The paper also aspires to present an accurate image of Islam, offering an opportunity for non-Muslims to reach a better understanding of their Muslim friends, neighbors and colleagues. The paper's five pillars are: conviction of faith, respect for all, integrity of character, consistency in style / purpose and commitment to accuracy.

Muslim Link Reporter
Muslim Link is looking for an enthusiastic reporter with strong writing skills. You must be able to submit work in a timely fashion.

Goals:

- Contribute to a sustainable, high-quality publication that offers timely and interesting information to the Muslim community and beyond
- Ask questions of elected and unelected officials, on behalf of Muslims to find out information that is of interest and use to the community
- Attend events which either directly or indirectly impact Muslims
- Discover breaking news and be the first to report it, for website news portal and monthly newspaper issue.
- Gain new skills, as well as improve on previously acquired skills, in the areas of story-telling, writing and editing

Responsibilities:
|
- Go to events around the city to report, conduct interviews, take pictures (for articles), write articles and submit in a timely fashion.
- Submit around 3 original articles / week
- Check all facts/ information before submission
- Meet all deadlines
- Maintain a respectful / Islamic relationship with staff / volunteers / sources
- Always identify oneself as a “Muslim Link” writer during interviews / covering events

- Flexible with time

- Understanding and patience for the constraints of a volunteer-run initiative

- Gain new skills, as well as improve on previously acquired skills, in the areas of story-telling, writing and editing.
- Submit well researched and analyzed articles to help inform the Muslim community.

- Submit original articles based on fact; or submit original fiction
- Check all facts/ information before submission
- Meet all deadlines
- Maintain a respectful / Islamic relationship with all volunteers / sources
- Always identify oneself as a “Muslim Link” writer during interviews / covering events
