Description

Conversations at The Royal - June 7, 2012 "We Can Save Lives: How to approach youth suicide in the 21st Century

The Royal is pleased to announce an upcoming Conversations at The Royal on Thursday June 7, 2012 at 7 pm “We can save lives: How to approach youth suicide in the 21st century” with Dr. Tyler Black, Clinical Head of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Emergency Unit at British Columbia Children’s Hospital.

 Brief Summary

Suicide remains a leading cause of death amongst youth (10-24 years of age), and far outranks the fatalities of any medical illness. There have been a number of trends to note lately: in the detection of youth suicide, in the assessment of youth suicide, and in the treatments offered for suicidal youth.  Dr. Black will outline these recent trends, put them into the context of the statistics of youth suicide, and provide avenues for both access and treatment. This is an interactive session and participation by attendees is encouraged.
